I first reviewed the subscription about a year ago, and I was pleased with EVERYTHING about it. I mentioned how the team finds a way to outdo the previous month’s box every single time - that statement stood the test of time. Right now, at the end of 2023, we’re looking at consecutive months of special releases in the subs box. What’s crazy is that the price has not increased since the first time I subbed. Bluebird’s subs box is objectively South Africa’s best value for money purchase in the specialty coffee scene. If I were to buy similar coffees as the ones in the box from other roasters, I’d go so far as to say I’d pay twice as much. These coffees are absurd. This is the best quality you can find in SA - you can quote me on that. What’s more- the box has VARIETY. If it has a natural coffee bursting with fruit, it will have clean coffee for when you’re in the mood for something a bit more classic. It’s genuinely like I picked out what I’d love to drink this month, and for no reason at all, I get 50% discount. I can’t fault a single thing about any Bluebird coffee I’ve tasted, and the subscription throws a boatload of special perks our way (tasting coffees that are yet to be released; huge discounts; free country-wide delivery; variety in the box and between months). It feels like I should be thanking Bluebird every time I brew some coffee. Updated review: 6 stars out of 5

I tasted this in the November subs box alongside two incredible coffees. Although on paper this coffee would seem less “exciting” in terms of processing when compared to what was in the subs box, it was the first bag I finished out of the three. Crisp, clean, classic washed Burundi with delicious acidity. If I lived around the Bluebird HQ and shipping wasn’t a factor, I’d have made sure that I never ran out of this coffee. It’s a coffee that always hits the spot and ticks all the boxes.

South AfricaCute cup but misleading
The size on their website is a misleading, even though it says 100 ml I’ve seen bigger ones advertised at their shop and was led to believe it was bigger than this. They are cute, but EXCEPTIONALLY tiny. It’s essentially an expresso cup.
