Coffee Origins
Those who have been along for the ride for a few years will recognize Migoti washed, as we have been buying from Dan and his team for most of Bluebird’s lifetime. A release we all look forward to every year, this washed Burundi is up there with some of our favourite coffees that hit the roastery consistently. Being able to taste multiple harvest years of this coffee speaks to the work that the team at Migoti Coffee have been putting in, consistently delivering delicious coffees that represent some of the highest quality East Africa has to offer. Migoti washed is a versatile coffee that shines black and with milk, espresso and filter. Its token citric acidity giving off red apple vibes and brown sugar sweetness that lingers so long, this coffee will be hard to forget. Complex stone fruit characteristics make their appearance as the coffee cools, creating a taste experience reminiscent of a baked apple pie with custard through milk, and delicious peach iced tea on a warm summer afternoon as a filter coffee. A staple so consistent in our lineup, it has become intrinsically linked to Bluebird’s identity and its characteristics represent the best of what we look to highlight with our roasting. Clean, sweet and versatile coffee that fills the gap on any occasion.
Migoti coffee, founded in 2015 by Dan Brose and Pontien Ntunzwenimana in an effort to uplift the smallholder farmers in the surrounding Bujumbura Province. The infrastructure in this area had suffered neglect and deteriorated after the country’s 12-year civil war between 1993 and 2005. The two engineers saw an opportunity to work with the community, building processing infrastructure to service the nearly 4000 farmers in the surrounding area, starting with Migoti Coffee Washing Station. Not just processing and selling coffee, they endeavored to uplift the surrounding community by providing education regarding sustainable farming practices and adding to the local farmer’s skillset around agriculture, which has led to their washing stations producing some of the most sought-after coffee from Burundi over the last decade

FAQs
Single origins: Our roast style and green coffee preference suits both filter and espresso very well.
Each coffee with present different characteristics you may prefer through a specific brew method.
For example Dario loves washed Kenyan’s through the AeroPress, but they taste great as espresso and through the V60.
Blends: Designed with espresso in mind but Dreamer tastes great in the plunger. It’s all down to personal preference!
