Coffee Origins
Gesha Village Estate was founded in 2011 by Rachel Samuel and Adam Overton. After visiting Ethiopia in 2007, their passion for coffee, people and the country of Ethiopia was ignited. With the help of renowned coffee researcher, Willem Boot, they established a nursery which would soon grow some of the best Ethiopian coffee available in the world. The region where the farm is situated is widely considered the birthplace of Arabica coffee as we know it today, with a deep genetic lineage of excellent coffees growing wild across the slopes and valleys. The farm sits over 2000masl, some of the highest-altitude farms on the continent, producing complex, dense and sweet coffees of the highest quality. The farm is divided into eight sub-farms, separating the large property into smaller parts, each with their own unique microclimate, resulting in coffees with different profiles and characteristics depending on which farm it was grown on. Most of the production consists of Gori Gesha and Gesha 1931, with small parts dedicated to research varieties and smaller lots of coffee. The team at Gesha Village have dedicated resources to reforestation and agroforestry, creating a naturally favourable environment where the ecosystem can exist undisturbed and the coffee can gain all the benefit of this thriving natural environment. They work sparingly with all natural resources, using water only where necessary and recycling both water and other raw material for reuse on the farm. They founded Gesha Village High School in 2021, providing stable infrastructure for children within their community to get an education. Along with this, they also have a beekeeping program, in a continued effort to uplift the environment and promote the existence of the natural eco-system surrounding the estate.
Gesha Village has a classic approach to natural processing, drying the coffees on raised beds in cherry with frequent agitation to ensure they dry evenly. The cherry is then removed and the coffee is prepared for export. Our coffee is a Gesha 1931. Gesha 1931 is a varietal that was collected from the surrounding forests and is a varietal known to closely resemble the famous Panamanian Gesha coffees which, in part, inspired the existence of the estate in the first place.
Classic Ethiopian, classic Gesha. Delicate stonefruit notes with floral complexity and sweetness are the calling cards for coffees from this region. Our coffee reminds us of fresh apricots on a warm summer’s day along with the sweetest white grape which is complimented with notes of fresh jasmine flowers. Perfectly balanced, this year’s coffees from Gesha Village are some of the best in a long time, which speaks volumes, considering they have been consistently excellent for more than a decade. This coffee is a special one and your rotation deserves an Ethiopian Gesha of this calibre

FAQs
Single origins: Our roast style and green coffee preference suits both filter and espresso very well.
Each coffee with present different characteristics you may prefer through a specific brew method.
For example Dario loves washed Kenyan’s through the AeroPress, but they taste great as espresso and through the V60.
Blends: Designed with espresso in mind but Dreamer tastes great in the plunger. It’s all down to personal preference!
